History
The Peak District became Britain's first national park in 1951. It covers moorland, limestone dales and gritstone edges, mostly in Derbyshire but stretching into neighbouring counties.
The Kinder Scout mass trespass of 1932 helped win the public the right to roam on open land. Today the park is one of the most visited in the country, within an hour of millions of people in Manchester, Sheffield, Derby and Nottingham.
