Memorial trees and the Garden of remembrance
Remember someone special with a tree on the map of the UK and Ireland. Add their name, a few words and a photo, choose a date for the tree to glow gold each year, and let friends and family light a candle wherever they are.

How it works
- Choose a spot. Zoom in on the map and tap any empty green square - near their home, a favourite place, anywhere that mattered.
- Add their details. Their name, a few words, an optional photo and an optional date to remember, such as a birthday.
- Add a charity link if you like. A JustGiving or MuchLoved page, so people can give in their memory. The money goes straight to the charity.
- Pay £10, once. The tree can never be bought or outbid, and stays for as long as the site is live (at least until 2036).
- We check it. A person approves every memorial, usually within a day, and we email you when it is on the map. If we cannot place it, you get a full refund.
- Share it. Send the link to family and friends so they can visit and light a candle.

What is a memorial tree on Sim Britain?
A memorial tree is a tree planted on the Sim Britain map of the UK and Ireland in memory of someone special. It shows their name, a few words and an optional photo, and anyone can visit it and light a candle.
How much does a memorial tree cost?
A memorial tree is a one-off £10. There is nothing more to pay, and unlike every other spot on the map it can never be bought or outbid.
How long will the tree stay on the map?
For as long as the site is live. The domain is registered and the hosting paid for 10 years, so Sim Britain will be here until at least 2036.
Where can I plant it?
On any empty green square on the map - near their home town, a favourite place or anywhere that meant something to them. Zoom in and tap an empty green square to choose.
What is the anniversary glow?
You can choose a date, such as a birthday or anniversary. On that day each year the tree glows gold on the map, and its page shows that today is a special day.
How do the candles work?
Anyone visiting the tree can light a candle, once a day. The number of candles lit is shown on the tree's page, and a small flame burns beside the tree on the map once the first candle is lit.
Can people donate in their memory?
Yes. You can add a JustGiving or MuchLoved page, and a "Give in their memory" button appears on the tree. Donations go straight to the charity through JustGiving or MuchLoved - Sim Britain receives nothing. Other fundraising sites are not accepted.
Is every memorial checked?
Yes. A person checks every memorial before it appears, usually within a day. If we cannot place it for any reason, your £10 is refunded in full.
Will the memorial appear on Google?
Only if you choose. When you plant the tree you can tick "Show in the Garden of remembrance". If you do, the tree is listed on this page and its own page can be found on Google. If you do not, the page is private and only people you share the link with will see it. The tree is on the map either way.
Can I change or remove a memorial?
Yes - just email us from the address you used when planting and we will help.
