What we collect

• Purchases and accounts: email address, company name, website, description and logo you submit, and optionally X and Instagram handles and a WhatsApp number, plus price paid and purchase history. Everything except your email address is published on your listing, so please use business contact details.
• Payments: handled by Stripe. We do not receive or store your card details; we receive confirmation, amount and your email.
• Location: if you tap "near me" on the map, your browser shares your approximate location with the page so it can show nearby spots. It is processed on your device only and is never sent to or stored by us.
• Treasure hunt: if you collect a hidden item, your email address (to send your credit and login link), when you found it, and a salted hash of your IP address (to apply the one-find-per-day rule). We only ever show which town an item was found near, never who found it.
• Comments, tips and subscriptions: what you write, plus your email if you give it.
• Visit and click counters: to show how many people visited each spot and clicked through to its website, we store a one-way, salted hash of your IP address and browser for up to two days so each person is only counted once a day. We cannot turn it back into your IP address.
• Usage data: an anonymous visit counter, and (only if you accept analytics cookies) Google Analytics data such as pages viewed, device and approximate location.
• Security: Cloudflare Turnstile and network protection process technical data such as IP address to block spam and abuse.

Why and legal basis

• To provide purchases, logins and emails you ask for (contract).
• To prevent fraud and spam, keep records and run the site (legitimate interests; legal obligation for accounting).
• Analytics cookies and marketing emails (consent). Update emails about the site are sent only to confirmed subscribers.

Emails

We send transactional emails (login links, receipts, outbid alerts) and, to subscribers who confirmed, occasional major-update emails. Unsubscribe from updates at any time using the link in them.

Who we share with

Processors: Cloudflare (hosting, storage, email, security), Stripe (payments), Google (Analytics, if consented). Listing content you submit is public. Some processors are outside the UK; transfers rely on UK-approved safeguards.

Retention

Listings and purchase history are kept to maintain the public record of previous tenants; accounting records for 6 years; subscriber data until you unsubscribe; comments until removed.

Your rights

You can request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability or object to processing by emailing hello@britain.bid. You can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
