History
The Forth Bridge opened in 1890, carrying the railway across the Firth of Forth between Edinburgh and Fife. Designed by John Fowler and Benjamin Baker, it was the world's longest cantilever bridge when it opened.
Its red steel is so famous that "painting the Forth Bridge" became a saying for a never-ending job. It was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2015.
