History
Big Ben is the nickname of the Great Bell inside the clock tower at the north end of the Palace of Westminster, though most people use it for the whole tower. The tower was designed by Augustus Pugin as part of the rebuilding of Parliament after the fire of 1834, and the clock started in 1859.
The tower was renamed the Elizabeth Tower in 2012 to mark Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee. It was restored between 2017 and 2022, when the clock dials were returned to their original Prussian blue and gold.
